Dental caries is a multifactorial disease and the most common human infection; millions of dollars are spent annually on controlling and treating it. In recent decades, the use of natural products for the prevention, control, and treatment of dental caries for various reasons has been considered, including the increasing resistance of bacteria to antibiotics, the high cost, and several adverse effects of some chemicals. Natural products are derived from natural sources that include; plants, animals, and microorganisms that could have therapeutic effects, for instance, in controlling dental caries. This review elucidates studies on the impact of antibacterials from various natural products against bacteria causing dental caries. Reliable databases such as Scopus, Science Direct, and Web of Science were used to compile this article. According to the favorable results of the studies, it will be promising to substitute these natural compounds with chemical drugs to prevent and control dental caries in the future.
